Che’s 2018-2019 season ended last night in their state semifinals and where his Dulaney (MD) lost a barnburner matchup to powerhouse Eleanor Roosevelt (MD) 63-61 at the Xfinity Center on the campus of Maryland University. Evans finished with an efficient 17 points and 10 rebounds and he tells me that might have been his last game in a Dulaney (MD) uniform.
“My final college list until a decision is made are Vanderbilt, Florida,Texas Tech, Oregon State, TCU, and Boise State University.”, Che tells me. “Ohio State is off due to choice of conference and style of play. UCLA is off the list after HC Steve Alford was let go, and the uncertainty as to who will replace him. Vanderbilt was added and are recruiting me hard, due to my academics, talent, and their coaching staff pro ties. They contact my AAU coach every day. They love the fact I’m solid as a student and they want the talent that have pro aspirations.”, says Che.
The junior forward tells me, in terms of a college decision, he is sure it will be next month after he gets a few more visits in with his family and have an idea who else these schools are recruiting along with himself. “The schools listed see me as a versatile scorer who can also make plays for other teammates.”, says Che. The 6-foot-6 forward also tells me he is looking else where now to finish off his high school career. He tells me he is looking at private schools that are not prep or post grad. “My grades are good, and Ive already done well on my first S.A.T. attempt and this allowed me to take an official to Boise State last year. I love what Dulaney and their staff have done for me in my 3 years, but im ready for a new challenge before college.” Che says.
I had the chance to speak with Che’s AAU coach and godfather Dwayne Wise on possible destinations for Che next high school season. “When his parents and myself agreed he needed to improve, and perhaps play a top schedule before college, I researched and made contacts after their loss in the semifinals. We are hoping to keep him in the DMV region but not limited to the Philadelphia area because we have family up there.”, Wise says. “One of the schools we will shadow in the Philly area is Roman Catholic. It is one school locally in terms of privates that want him and need him. There are a few near DC/VA who are really interested and are good fits.”, Wise tells me. He also tells me that one thing for certain, is that he took care of his academics at Dulaney for 3 years after taking honors core credits. With that being said in his last year he has earned the athletic options that he feel will prepare him best.
